Nota d'usoTradizionalmente, il sostantivo city si riferisce a una città piuttosto grande che ospita una cattedrale. La parola town indica invece una qualsiasi città o cittadina, ed è usata in contrapposizione ai villaggi di campagna o alle aree suburbane: I'm going into town, vado in città (non I'm going into the city). In questo caso town indica il centro città, dove ci sono i negozi, monumenti, attrazioni ecc. Spesso, nel linguaggio colloquiale non c'è una grande differenza di uso tra questi due sostantivi: Leeds is a big town, Leeds è una grande città. -
